Introduction of SVES (Hari Manovikasa Kendram)
In 2009 the NSSO survey report reads, 3% of the children between 0-14 years of age have developmental delays including mental retardation. Disability rehabilitation in India has a long past but a short scientific history. Several individuals and groups initiated measures for the betterment and improvement of the disabled. Rehabilitation services for the persons with disability in an organized manner started as a movement after independence. However, services to these sectors are not sufficient to meet the minimum need of handicapped. More services are required to help the helpless people to help themselves, especially for the mentally challenged.
In our survey, mentally challenged from below poverty line is marked most unfortunate and they are leading miserable life. So this pathetic condition of the sector moved us deeply to launch a service institute in Amalapuram 25th May, 1994 by giving the name Sree Vivekananda Educational Society (SVES) well known as (Hari Manovikas Kendram).
The SVES (Hari Manovikas Kendram) has its headquarters at Amalpuram covers more than fifty villages. There is no other institute renders service, so far. So, this is really serendipity to rural people to utilize this boon. Mr. Ashok showed great perseverance and patience towards achieving his aim to start a service organization in rural area. Amalapuram is situated in heart of Konaseema area. This is seventy kilometers far from Rajahmundry City.
